Action Coach Exeter was pleased to take a busload of businesspeople to hear Brad Sugars speak in Bristol on 2 November 2022. Brad, who is the founder of Action Coach, is probably the best business coach in the world, we certainly think so! There is no doubt that he has built up a massive selection of executive coaches through the Action Coach global network.

The event was part of the Raise Your Hand, Raise Your Profits Tour featuring Marcus Sheridan and Brad Sugars.  Our very own, Andrew De Groot, who leads Action Coach Exeter, was first up on stage to introduce Marcus who shared key insights in keeping with his bestselling book, You Ask, We Answer. His strategy is to build trust with clients and remove doubt by answering the questions people are asking. We will cover this in a later post…

Then, it was over to Brad Sugars who has over 30 years of experience in coaching and describes himself ‘a billionaire in training!’ Brad delivered an exceptional presentation based on his book, Raise Your Hand Marketing, with loads of helpful takeaways. In this blog post we will look at just a few. But first let’s set the scene for what was a transformational evening.

Raise Your Hand, Raise Your Profit Seminar

Andrew de Groot and Andi Davies welcomed business owners from Devon and Cornwall onto the bus in Exeter, as we headed for this special event in Bristol. To pass the time we were invited to participate in speed networking. It’s not often you see people exchanging seats on a bus at short intervals giving each person a chance to have a quick 1:1 with another passenger. However, interacting with other businesspeople is a key part of what we like to do at Action Coach Exeter!

The team from the Southwest all sat together in a room full of expectant entrepreneurs. The atomosphere was buzzing and both speakers were excellent. Maggie Taylor, marketing director of Frankman design and marketing later wrote this message on LinkedIn:

“I was privileged to join a fantastic squad of fellow Devonians as we raced along the M5 to Bristol, to the ‘Raise Your Hand, Raise Your Profit’ seminar held by the top people at Action Coach. Speaking at the event was an author I’ve admired (#understatement) Marcus Sheridan for many years, since he released his book They Ask, you Answer. Also talking was THE main man from Action Coach, Brad Sugars. Both presentations were a full-force “whallop” around the head with impressively simple (but massively effective) lessons that will revolutionize your marketing efforts.”

4 marketing nuggets from Brad Sugars

  1. To be successful in business you need to create Raving Fans

This is all part of the “Ladder of Loyalty.” Your clients start off as a Suspect in your target market, then become a Prospect when they raise their hand. Step by step you need to guide them up the ladder, from Shopper to Customer or Member. This leads to them becoming an Advocate and ultimately a RAVING FAN! Creating raving fans is fundamental to what Action Coach aims to get its clients to accomplish.

  1. Don’t get too fresh too soon!

Most marketing is too soon. You aren’t asking them to get married, just for a coffee! Successful marketing revolves around building a relationship where customers start to Know, Like and Trust you. Get your ‘suspect’ to raise their hand before you bombard them with offers. You can start with Google ads, testimonials, reviews and requests for interviews. The key is to consistently get more conversations. How can you start a conversation to reach a new customer? What ways can you reach the suspect pool? What can you say that will get people to raise their hands?

  1. Social media is social marketing

Use social media posts primarily as a testing ground for your advertising campaigns. If a post does well, turn it into an advert. Test and measure! If it flops, delete it. Your page should only feature your greatest hits! A social media trick that works is to get people to raise their hand for a particular piece of content. Don’t put the link to your latest blog in the post, rather invite them to type the word ‘Blog’ in the comments with the promise you will send it to them. This blows up the algorithm. You can even do this with other people’s content. For example, “Just listened to an amazing podcast. If you want to hear it, type ‘podcast’ below. It’s amazing how well this works…

  1. Marketing is mathematical

The goal of your marketing shouldn’t be to attract “as many people as I can get.” Rather it should focus on how many new customers you can handle. Marketing is the profitable buying of lifetime customers. Determine how much each new customer needs to spend with you and work backwards from there and make your marketing pay for itself. See The Greatest Secret in the World of Business, a blog by Brad Sugars.  It’s really just simple ‘marketing math.’

Marketing is the lifeblood of any business, and ‘Raise your hand marketing’ changes your whole focus entirely, giving you many more leads. Find out more in the video below.
